This article describes how to pass a multi-value parameter from report A to report B the easy way. I fiddled around with it for a long time myself to get it working. In the end the solution was very simple: it works exactly the same as passing on a normal parameter. The problem was that SSRS2005 puts a (0) after the parameter in the drillthrough action by default. This means it only passes on the first value of the array.

What I want is to pass the selected week numbers from report A to report B.

Report A: Parameter @GeselecteerdeWeekID (Multi-value)
Report B: Parameter @GeselecteerdeWeekID (Multi-value)

Go to the cell you want to link to Report B and click “Properties”. Then go to “Navigation” and click “Jump to Report” there. Select Report B.

mv_01
….then you select the parameter you want to pass on.

mv3
Click the parameter. By default it puts a (0) after it. Remove it and it works fine! If you do not remove the (0), it only passes on the first of the selected values. If you choose, for example, weeks 200801, 200802,200803, it only passes on 200801!

Frequently asked questions

How do I pass a multi-value parameter to a drillthrough report in SSRS?

On the cell, go to Properties, then Navigation and Jump to Report. Choose report B and select the parameter. Remove the (0) that SSRS puts after it. Then it works like a normal parameter.

Why does SSRS pass on only one value of my multi-value parameter?

SSRS 2005 puts a (0) after the parameter in the drillthrough action by default. With that (0) only the first value is passed on. If you choose the weeks 200801, 200802, 200803, report B only gets 200801.

Where do I set up a drillthrough to another report?

Click the cell you want to link and choose Properties. Go to Navigation and click Jump to Report. There you select the target report.

Does the parameter have to be a multi-value parameter in both reports?

In the example, report A and report B both have the parameter @GeselecteerdeWeekID, and it is multi-value in both. That way the selected week numbers go from report A to B.

Is passing on a multi-value parameter different from a normal parameter?

No, it works exactly the same as passing on a normal parameter. The only difference is the (0) you have to remove.
