Target line/StripLine in Reporting Services

In SSRS 2008 R2 you can add a target line to a chart. This is useful to show, for example, what the target is, so you can quickly see which values go over the target.

Adding a target line (StripLine) is not hard, but the option is rather hidden.

1 - Click the correct axis in the chart.

The properties of the X axis appear on the right side of the screen.

2 - Click the three dots next to “StripLines”. The following screen appears. Then click “Add”

4 - By default the target line is invisible, so you have to set a few things. You must set the border style to “Solid”, and you can change the color of the line.

5 - Finally, it is important to set where the line must appear. You do this under “Interval”. In my case I want the line at 100%, because that is the target in my chart. My x axis is a percentage, so I enter “1” for the interval:

Result:

As you can see in the image above, a black line has appeared at 100% (I set the line color to black). Now I can easily see which values go over the target.
